In my practice I'm assembling self conscious objects, spaces and performances that are working with and against “no”. Language and treatment become tools for symbolic abstraction. I collect used and discarded materials that have been altered by “something”, and let their story integrate with my own mediation. I read the behavior of things we accept, observe what they become based on how they perform and force my hand in redefining its material meaning. I’m curious about their response to being “here”. Objects pretending, holding on and attempting to keep up, are qualities I interrogate. Things are constantly trying to stay together under unfit circumstances and lean on obvious illusion. Absurdity, risk, and embarrassment, especially in regards to repetition are highly considered. Time is essential in affect. When you zoom in on something familiar and exaggerate its meaning, the ground disrupts. This all comes from a reaction to surveillance and seeing what happens when I stop correcting/controlling.
